Submit Your Abstract for 2010 ONS Advanced Practice Nursing Conference (6/1/10)
Share your knowledge by submitting an abstract that describes your cutting-edge original nursing research or nursing innovations in administration/ leadership development, clinical/evidence-based practice, or education. Abstracts are due June 29.

Abstracts will be blind-reviewed by APN volunteers with clinical and/or research expertise. Selection will be based on blind review. All abstracts accepted in 2010 will be presented as posters. Select presenters will be requested to oversee a round-table discussion regarding their topic.

Please note that the primary author for the abstract must be an advanced practice nurse. APNs may partner with nurses or other licensed healthcare professionals from another discipline (e.g., physician, pharmacist, physical therapist), but the lead author must be an APN.

Authors of accepted poster abstracts must be present at their posters during an assigned session at the conference to allow for dialog with participants. Posters should remain in place throughout the entire conference.

You can submit abstracts of your own completed work, work in progress, or work presented at the local or regional level. Abstracts may not be submitted that contain information that has been previously published or presented to national or international oncology nursing audiences. The primary author of the abstract must obtain consent from all authors and appropriate institutional clearances prior to abstract submission.

Complete conference information, including online registration, will be available in mid-July.

Radiation SIG Mentoring Program

It is a time to focus on the need for mentoring and to assure a brighter future. You can partricipate by becoming a mentor or mentee through the Radiation SIG Mentoring Program.

Did you know that the Radiation SIG provides a formal mentoring program for oncology nurse professionals? Joining is easy. To enroll, visit www.3creekmentoring.com/ONS to start the process.

Mentoring relationships officially begin once a mentee contacts a prospective mentor (through the online program) and both parties agree to a mentoring arrangement. These relationships are ongoing with the majority of communication occurring by email and through the online program. However, mentors and mentees may also connect in-person or by telephone (at their own expense) as deemed appropriate and convenient for them.

Mentoring relationships can be either short or long in duration. However, participants should be willing to make a minimum commitment of two hours per month to the program. If at anytime an arrangement is not meeting the desired expectations, a mentor or mentee can be paired with another member participating in the program.

Please direct any questions to membership@ons.org.
