Subject: On Call Nurses in Radiation Therapy

I would like to know your procedure for treating an emergency patient after hours. Who is on call and required to show up for treatment- Nursing? Therapists? Physics? Is the person compensated for being on call/carrying a pager or are they only paid for actually working?

I manage the nurses for a large hospital center and only MDs, physicists, and therapists are scheduled for weekend call. Therapists are paid for 4 hours on call time each weekend day. If patients need to be treated we discuss their condition and whether the nurse/physician feel a nurse presence is necessary or helpful and then the nurses are asked who might want to come in for overtime pay.
